  1. 1. I've observed that Saxon is very in depth on what he talks and writes about. I think the value is that the Saxons have a good outlook on the way things are but don't want to be taken away.
    2. He is introduced like that because the author wants to you think that beowulf is a very calm character but he isn't. Also, the author might want to build up your impression of him so you have a better understanding on him in further chapters.

  2. The Saxons value courage, strength, honor, and loyalty.Beowulf demonstrates having to fight for something larger than himself . Beowulf also embodies the Saxon code of conduct that recognizes the counter a real threat regardless of the consequences. I do not think Beowulf is introduced in a coy manner. He is not very quiet or reserved. Beowulf is kind of full of himself when he takes his crew dressed in armor onto the coast. The watchmen can tell he is a noble hero by just looking at Beowulf and his crew

  3. The values of the Saxons consist of courage, and strong belief in passed down ideals. They will always fight for what they believe is write, and they do it for something that is bigger than them.
Beowulf is the epitome of the Saxons beliefs. but i believe the author doesn't want him to be directly introduced as so, he wants your opinion of the character to be built up through the story, The "Coy" manner of the first introduction was almost done in the same way that Beowulf's personality is he has a shy, honest, and humble personality, and he is introduced in that same manner.

  4. Beowulf is sucha intense warrior, by not introducing him in a coy way it would not bring such a figure like him to life. The Saxons stick to their tradional values. With the death of the father they buried him in such a a way it stuck to the values of how they live.

  5. The saxons value weapons and armor. I know this because when beowolfs ship arrived the man he met mentioned the mighty vessel first and not asking what they were doing there. This shows that there value is more based on war and power rather than there actual problems.

Beowolf is introduced in such a coy manner because he really has not done anything yet. Beowolf has not proved himself yet except for looking tough which is apparently valued in the saxon community.

  6. The Saxons value poetry and speech because they are in civilizations that rely on them to preserve history and myths.

Because he is not well known but a good reputation will put him in history as a great hero and leader

  7. Loyalty, strength, and battlefield glory are just a couple of the things the saxons value. I know this by reading and researching information on the book to get a better understanding.

  8. --The Saxons value wealth, land, and illustrious buildings of great splendor. The book Beowulf talks about the different kings of the Saxons, then proceeds to speak of their wealth and land. Many people admire the kings because of this. One king, Hrothgar, builds an immaculate banquet hall named Heorot.

--Beowulf is introduced in a very coy manner. Introducing him in a quiet and reserved manner shows that he is humble. Beowulf is also announced as the leader of a group of warriors that has traveled far in order to kill Grendel. This gives Beowulf the qualities of a great hero. It also aids in Beowulf's character development process by showing that he keeps his thoughts to himself.

  9. 1. The Saxons value heroic actions and protection of their people. There are many references throughout the chapters to characters having honor in combat and being a great warrior. Hygelac was described as being the mightiest man of valor. It also was noted that he who is wise and brave may best his foes.
    2. Beowulf is introduced in a coy manner because he is entering a new phase of his life in becoming king, since his father had died.

  10. So far in Beowulf, I've learned so far that the Saxons value those who show leadership in their society. The Saxons show how much they value their previous ruler by how they mourned his death, and showed contribution towards his life. We learn in chapter 1 how they honor Beowulf when he is born, because he came from their former ruler, and how he was a gift from the Gods.

Beowulf is introduced in a great manner because we are meant to believe that he is a gift from God. The author wants to tell the readers how great and manly Beowulf is, and how he can eventually become a great warrior for his land. Beowulf's God-like features make us believe that he was sent to their land for a purpose, and can eventually help take down whatever comes their way

  11. The saxons valued the pride and dignity in fighting and defending them selves. Beowulf describes the saxons as noble warriors. Beowulf is described as coy because he comes off as heroic but seems to be quiet and reserved to himself

  12. I have noticed that in these past four chapters, the Saxon are a very male centered society. In these chapters, we learn about the Saxons history in leaders. They are all males and everyone looks up to them. He could have been introduced in a coy manner because he was trying to be modest.

  13. The Saxons valued courage, strength and fame. You can get this from how they desire being sung about by the bards this one thing they valued (fame). He introduced in a coy manner because he's thought to be heroic but really he's actually very reserved.

  15. The thing the Saxons value is courage blood line and fame. Bloodline coming from the being royalty. Fame being the barad sing about you in the hall. Beowulf is introduced as coy because in the being he's put of to be a shy person but he's supposed to be heroic

  16. To me it seems like the Saxons value the thought of war and being able to take control of other lands and building up their own peoples name so they will be remembered throughout history. Beowulf was introduced in that way because they want the reader to know everything about him in the very beginning, they want to be able to build up his character and build on him to show how great of a leader he is.

  17. 1 The Saxons were very loyal to their kings and they would die by fighting for them. They were kind people who would give up there life for their ruler. They value the thought of war and want stories to be passed down so people will remember them. 2
They don't show too much about him and they want to show how good of a leader he is.

  18. 1. They seemed to be a nice peaceful country until Grendel started waring and would not stop
2.because he seems to be a well known ,loved ,and powerful man

  19. I believe the Saxons value protection. For they lived in fear of invasion. For this took place in the Middle Ages and the Middle Ages was a dangerous time!
I believe Beowulf was introduced in a coy manner because they wanted to hide that he was there to protect. So they made him seem like he was not able to do anything

  20. 1.)The Saxons value protection. They value protection because in the story when the fourteen sailors and Beowulf from geats arrive on a boat, and say they are their to help fight against Grendel(the demon in the night who has attacked and killed multiple hrothgar men). Once, the guard from hrothgar hears this he believes them and allows them to come ashore, leaving their ship back on the beach with guards protecting it.The guard will then show them to the most beautiful house in the world of hrothgars hall.
2.) Beowulf was introduced in a coy way to keep the reader interested in the almighty warrior. Also it leads the reader to want to know what will happen when Beowulf fights against Grendel. Will Beowulf save the men of hrothgar or will Grendel seize in power at the massacre? These questions can't be answered with the details given about Beowulf leading the reader to want to know.

  21. The saxons seem to value their land and their hero's. The way that everyone that has done anything important is explained shows great love and admiration towards their hero's. It is done in this manner because they want to lead up to his actual introduction which from previous introductions in the book it will be during a time of need or something that well put a face to the hero and explain further what will happen in the story.

  22. I believe beowulf is introduced in a coy manner because they don't want to get straight into the story. The writers wanted to make the rising action not seem very intense so the climax can be very intense. Also i believe that the Saxons value their land. because they worked hard to get it and they will not lose it.

  23. the Saxons value god because they always praise him and thank him after everything they do.

Beowulf was introduced very vague because there is more to learn about him as the story goes on

  24. The saxons value courage, for example beowulf has the courage to fight fir something that has nothing to do with him but he helps just to help others. He is introduced in a coy way so that you can understand the character better as he develops through the story

  25. 1.) So far in Beowulf, I've noticed that the Saxons value pride and self-strength. I noticed this because Beowulf fights for not only survival but he fights for whats right and moral. He does what others cant to protect himself and the others around him. The saxons protect themselves against Grendel, they protect the ship at Hrothgar to show their strength.

2.) Beowulf is introduced this way because the author wants to further explain the character and use better character development to let the reader become more involved in his characteristics.

  26. 1.) The Saxons value heroism and courage. They fight for others as well as themselves for their own survival as well as the survival of others, and fight for what is morally right.

2.) Beowulf is introduced in this manner to show his development through out the poem and to draw attention to him as a character.
